Hi, I'm Aidan MaKinster, I'm a RIT student in the School of Individualized Studies focusing on Product Design for Innovation, combining aspects of an engineering degree with entrepreneurial and innovation classes. This has put me in a unique position to understand everything that goes into running a business from product ideation and creation to marketing and fundraising.
When it comes to work, I work at RIT's on-campus live production company as the Shop Foreman and am currently working on my startup, "RAIZE Industries", a company focused on making innovative, first-to-market bike parts for mountain bikers.
When not busy with school or work, I love spending time with friends whether it's having a campfire and grilling for everyone or going on an adventure to a nearby hidden gem. I'm also a very active outdoorsperson and love to mountain bike, hike, camp, and rock climb in any spare time that I have.
My startup focused on selling high-quality, innovative mountain bike parts, founded on the ideals of cutting-edge innovation to create a faster, more efficient, and more comfortable experience for riders on the trail.
This venture started as my senior capstone project but with the help of the RIT Gap Year Entrepreneurial Fellowship and Gap Year Enhancement Award, I've been working to turn it into a full business.
Our flagship product is the Multi-Position Mountain Bike Stem, a stem with on the fly adjustable geometry that utilizes raised reversed geometry to provide significant handling advantages while preserving climbing capabilities.
Raised reverse geometry offers significant handling advantages by putting the rider's hands behind the headset, moving from a traditional pushing stabilization to a pulling stabilization more akin to a motocross bike. Additionally, by moving the bars back, the hand arc moves closer to the contact patch of the tire, further improving stability. The higher, closer bar position also aids better body geometry, allowing the rider to have more mobility on the bike and to corner faster through better side knob engagement.
Business Timeline

RIT Tech Crew was not where I expected that I would have worked for approaching 5 years coming into college but putting in my application during orientation week, my freshman year of school, is probably one of the best decisions I ever made.
We are a live production company consisting of 80+ college students with 2 full-time staff members in charge. We are responsible for supporting the majority of production for on-campus events, supplying lighting, sound, and power distribution to events ranging from dance parties to commencement and full-scale concerts.
One of the coolest parts of Tech Crew is that we write and conduct our own peer to peer training which everyone partakes in for 3hrs every week.
Furthermore, we have three student management teams:
Supervisors, in charge of large jobs and training.
Coordinators, in charge of building jobs based on clients needs and scheduling crew members.
The Shop Team, in charge of managing, maintaining and repairing our gear and spaces as well as writing and conducting tool training.
I hold the title of Shop Foreman — the highest position on the shop team and manage two Assistant Shop Foreman and a crew of 10 Shop Techs.
Along with being a job, Tech Crew is also where I've made some of my closest friends. We are more than just a job; we are a community full of people that love to work hard and have a good time while doing it.
Our biggest annual community-oriented event is Relay for Life, run by The American Cancer Society. This 12-hour overnight relay event is a fundraiser aimed at creating a cancer-free world. Tech Crew pulls up in full force every year. Not only do we support the event from a technical standpoint, we have also been the #1 fundraising team since Relay started at RIT over 10 years ago, and we even won the 2024 Campus Team of the Year award.
